After completing this course, students will be able to understand the importance of helping and feel confident in helping. They will understand how to size up a scene before providing first aid, determine when and how to seek professional medical care, understand their legal duties and rights when providing CPR, and or first aid. Learn how to prevent disease transmission through the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Also how to treat an unresponsive person and a person experiencing an opioid overdose.
You will also be able to explain the difference between heart attack and cardiac arrest and learn how to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to adults, children, and infants. They will also learn how to give compression-only CPR to adults and children. Students will learn both back blows and abdominal thrusts to provide first aid to someone with an airway obstruction. Finally, students are taught how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
